The Mapei team is rightly fondly remembered, with plenty of our customers still happy to wear the multi-coloured cubes on Sunday rides. Between 1993 and 2000, the team dominated professional cycling with only Tour de France eluding the all-star outfit primarily due to the team's stance on anti-doping at the time.
The team won numerous single day classics, the podium clean sweep of the 1996 Paris Roubaix springs to mind, with Johan Museeuw, Gianluca Bortolami and Andrea Tafi taking the spoils. However, no rider ever won Milano San Remo - although Paolo Bettini, Oscar Freire, Filippo Pozzato and Fabian Cancellara did go onto win 'La Classicissima' with subsequent teams!
Mapei is still active in cycling to this very day, it's colourful cubes adorning banners at the spectator-less, yawn-fest that was the World Championships at Doha.
