Issue 24 - Treviso World Cup Round, Italy

05/10/2009

by Helen Wyman

Soon after returning from America, Helen Wyman of the Kona/FSA Factory Team started her World Cup campaign in Treviso Italy. With a win already this season to her name, Helen was keen to continue her steady build up to the middle of the season.

Her front row gridding helped with a steady start and she entered the first pit area in 6th position. Katie Compton was already showing her form out front, putting the pressure on the final few chasers as she showed her early season dominance from her first 3 wins in America.

The chasers behind formed a small group in the technical bowl area of the course, and it was Christel Bruneau that launched away from the group first, catching and then taking Daphny van den Brand with her.

Helen meanwhile was fighting for position in the group and ended up setting into her rhythm and finishing in 8th place at 1 minute and 46 seconds.

"That was a solid start to my European season. This is the first day I've felt normal after my American trip, so I know I have so much more to give. That's big encouragement for me and I know I’ll be back on the podium very soon." Said an exhausted and thirsty Wyman after the finish.

Helen continued, "It's still pretty weird riding cyclo-cross at 28 degrees. To be honest, its not really my favourite kind of weather for a 40 minute maximum effort in a skinsuit.... I hope it starts to rain soon and we can get started with the real cross."

The next race on the schedule is Namur in Belgium on Saturday.

Brief Result:

1 Katherine Compton (USA) 0:37:37
2 Daphny Van Den Brand (Ned) 0:00:28
3 Christel Ferrier-Bruneau (Fra) 0:00:34
...
8 Helen Wyman (GBr) 0:01:46
